Good. I thought you were near where flooding be a major issue. Waters here now going down after topping levees. Closed mill where I get most of my feed. Flies and midges coming off the flood plain coming up to go after birds and us in a big way. Birds having a tough time and there is little I can do to help them. Will be stinking soon as fish strand and die. Wind blows that nasty right at us.

I was trying read while laying on hammock under a locust tree with really big thorns.
Son came over to share some cherries, then came the birds.

We had a bout with non biting midges but nothing to affect the birds in a health way anyway. Driving got rough a few times. I'd say tidal surge is my biggest concern if the storm moves in to my west the wind drives the water in from the south and that would be worst case scenario. I wouldn't call myself a prepper but I am prepared. It's nothing that I'm not used to. Birds will be fine they always are and I don't see this amounting to much. It's nice to have a low to moderate storm every now and then it leaves such a fresh feeling after.

I think we are dealing with Buffalo Gnats that are normally associated with the bottoms and water. This year they are so abundant they are moving up on to bluffs where we live two miles away. The midges are so abundant that when they fly in the evening it is like I have tinnitus but higher pitched than normal. Spiders everywhere with webs having a major feast every night. They flies may also be messing with down and feather development in the chicks. The chicks are constants pecking at themselves as if they had mites but you can see the little brown gnats working them all over.

The flies and no see ums are thick this year. I would hate to be on the river at night right now. The wildflowers are making a comeback here, less spraying and cutting back it seems.

I should have dewormed already. The birds were overloaded with worms. I gave them their first dose. Flies and gnats/midges everywhere, larvae in the water tank. You can't leave anything out right now. I've taken to watering from a crock I empty and put up daily, and a couple upside down frisbees and quart jar for the chicks. I have to clean the coop regularly or the flies swarm. I need to get some hardwood mulch spread around the outbuildings and in the run. I think it might improve matters. I need to find some fly strips, everyone was out in town.
