Show Off Your Games!

Well, I sort of promised photos, but. . . I don't have any. Can't find my camera for the first time in my life. And that is greatly upsetting me. . .

BUT, I did get my Shamo pair! These are my first gamefowl, and I really have to say - They're far more confident, friendly, and intelligent than any other shipped bird I've gotten. Right out of the box, the stag starts dancing for the hen, then chooks up a storm about some peice of food, and allows us to do just about anything with him. The pullet is a little more shy, but still, I can touch her and show her off and she doesn't object much. They have slight runny noses and seem to shiver though, so I have a couple heat lamps set up in their coop.

I'm sure it is a shocking difference between Southern California and Northwest Washington.

Oh, and I didn't have a ruler, but I tried figuratively measuring the stag from head to toe, and I believe he's 23 inches tall already, and he's only 4.5 months old. (I basically offered my fingers up high as if with food, and, well, got a very powerful bite)

Very pretty birds everyone!! Makes me want to add a few games next spring..

Have fun Illia, they're addictive.. I spent the whole day almost playing with my Shamos today, had the two hens free ranging and alternated between roosters except for one. I may let him out to free range tomorrow.

Daniel - Oh I know they're addictive. . . We spent about two hours with them at first, talking about everything and anything Shamo. . . Plus, they're honestly the most spoiled, pampered breed here. And they're not even on day one yet. They have the biggest coop for just two birds, they've got complete insulation, they've got specially mixed food, and they have heating. Oh, and of course, we're planning to get a generator, incase we get another freak winterstorm. . . Don't want to lose them in a coldsnap AND power outage.

I'm sure they're not too terribly cold intolerant, but we don't want to lose our only two, and for a while I'm sure they won't be used to our climate. Plus, it's been weird around here. . . We just came through a snowstorm at 15-20 degree days, 13 degree nights. THAT is cold for out here.

Yep, I wrapped my Shamos pen's last night with tarps since it was supposed to get low twenties. Not sure how low of temps they can handle but do still wrap tarps to keep the wind off of them, they were fine today!
My original Shamo handled the low teens under the same conditions too fine last year.

I know when I first got him though, being a new oriental keeper and not wanting to lose him.. I too worried about how low was too low, since no one ever really gave me a general Idea.. Thought about making him a house chicken over the winter lol.. Which is special, if anything I'm one of those types that are against house chickens.

The stag, bunched up, next to a yardstick. He's actually about 24 inches tall when standing properly.

The silly birds have a big coop all to themselves, yet their entire day they just spend on that little table in the corner. . . So I eventually had to put their food and waterer up there, which they reacted desperately to.
