all these names are confusing to describe seeming similar or same birds. are there any distinctions besides the names (i know some are fliers, jumpers, high steppers/kickers, bobbers, weevers, and dancers more, but dont know which is for which or for what from whom)?

I'm trying to figure out what kind of bird I have here. I was originally told it was a Phoenix and since I was a complete rookie I wasn't about to doubt him but I have since learned it is probably more of a Game fowl. My buddy picked it up for me at a tailgate sale to add colour to my flock so I know nothing about it's background. The taxonomy of game fowl is complicated.

He is quite gorgeous!!! I think he may possibly be a Black Breasted Phoenix! Do you have any idea as to how old he is, the Phoenix mature late and the tail takes a few years to get really long, most of the Phoenix you will find from hatcheries and such are crosses somewhere down the line with some sort of game. Unless you got him from a trusted and honorable breeder you will never know what he is!!!! JMO!!!! Lynn

In my opinion there is not more game and less game there is either game or not. Like most traits if not selected for they could be lost. IMO

It could be that when a Chinese Game is outcrossed to a non-game breed, the resulting hybrid is more game than a similar cross involving an American game. Relative gameness in that situation could be assessed through interaction between hybrids.
