Show off your house ducks!

Hello, I do have a backyard but it is small. I found my duck abandoned in a mall's parking and I couldn't find his family so I took him home. He was mostly inside my house and a few hours on the backyard while I was at work. He learnt to fly and I was advised to clip his wings but I didn't do it. He flew away to a nearby canal and I don't know how he got hurt. So by the time he heals I need to figure out some sort of pen for him to be in the backyard again. I'm trying to convince my husband to let me buy another duck so mine doesn't feel so lonely but it going to be hard.

If any duck like if u don't want ducklings then I would advise a mallard derived female, but keep in mind they can still have offspring just not a lot

Here is some instruction on clipping wings. I haven't personally done it because none of my ducks can fly more than 10 feet.

I've always used this one with my Muscovy's just clip right where the red line is and only one wing it will keep him off balance so he can't fly. I was a nervous wreck when I first did it too, but it's for their own good and safety..You can do it. He'll fight because they don't like being held down, what i do is straddle my duck hold them close between my legs so they can't get away and pull the one wing out and clip it takes just a few seconds. i even printed out this image so I would have it in the coop I was so afraid I wouldn't do it right. I did though and so can you, and getting him a friend would be great they really do like the company of their own. A different breed of domestic would be fine look in craigslist and get him a female close to weight of a female Muscovy mine are 5-7lbs.

And you have become a phenomenal wing clipper, too, Miss Lydia.

Way better pic, Miss Lydia! :)

First time is always rough, but more mentally than anything... I cried after I clipped mine... was so sad to see them trying to fly... but better safe than sorry...
