Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

I have another question, about how old do the pullers start laying? Like if I get them in the spring will they be laying by late summer or fall?

My hens haven't started but they're combs are getting bigger and red they might start soon. But you might want to wait for Jophus answer

When they lay depends on the bird. I've had them lay at 5 months, and I have some that didn't lay until the following spring. I've got 7-8 month old pullets that are trying to incubate fertile eggs right now and laying eggs like they're going out of style when their not trying to set. I don't like to hatch out of the eggs until they're a little larger in size. Small eggs make small chicks.

Ah I see, so it's like a guessing and waiting game, which is fine because I have a layer flock so eggs aren't too much of a priority with my soon to be OEGB flock

I just found out that Cackle hatchery has an assorted OEGB option and you only gotta get 5 chicks minimum. I'm torn whether to get all crele or go with the assortment; I mean if I get all crele I could possibly breed and sell them easier because they are One color, unlike if I get the assortment then I would have a hard time telling what the chicks are mixed with, but then again having a color variety on the OEGB pen would be nice too. I can only get the 5 for the OEGB so I'm stumped on this one

Trying to figure out what mixed chicks are is part of the fun. Cackle also has some older birds for sale from time to time. Hatchery birds also tend to be a little on the larger side. Look around your area and see if anyone is breeding what you want. Most people sell their extras late in the fall.

Yeah and that's the problem, I don't have room for 25 birds at one time. But thanks for telling me about the sale

I'm laid up right now so I can't get anything, I don't think my wife would appreciate any more chores.
