Show off your Old English Game Bantams!!

Trying to figure out what mixed chicks are is part of the fun. Cackle also has some older birds for sale from time to time. Hatchery birds also tend to be a little on the larger side. Look around your area and see if anyone is breeding what you want. Most people sell their extras late in the fall.
Ain't that the truth, genetics are really cool and the uncertainty of mixing is great. I've looked round my area and haven't had luck, and starting from chicks is More fun I think. Oh and I have yet another question, can you introduce new chickens to the already established OEGB flock or are they like their large counterparts and kill new members?

I only keep young birds in small mixed groups. I do move them in and out of those groups to get the most agreeable birds together. Once they're older,I keep like varieties in pairs, trios, quads in breeding pens. They can see each other, but are kept apart.

I just found out that Cackle hatchery has an assorted OEGB option and you only gotta get 5 chicks minimum. I'm torn whether to get all crele or go with the assortment; I mean if I get all crele I could possibly breed and sell them easier because they are One color, unlike if I get the assortment then I would have a hard time telling what the chicks are mixed with, but then again having a color variety on the OEGB pen would be nice too. I can only get the 5 for the OEGB so I'm stumped on this one

Yeah you might want to wait and look around for a breeder hatchery birds aren't the best quality and like Jophus said they're bigger.

Ah I see, I'll probably keep all 5 together throughout their lives unless the Roos fight a lot, and maybe add a silkie to help them keep warm during winter.

Yeah I mean I don't care much if they are show quality as I'm not going to show, and the fact that hatchery birds are bigger just makes them more able to cope with the Michigan weather.
