My Lavs have their first egg in their box!!! One is exceptionally broody, too - so I guess we'll be raising babies!

If she's gone broody, slip all of the eggs beside her wing, and see if she'll tuck them under her. If so, she'll raise them all. That's what I do with my old Barred Dome Game hen. She raises Amies, Banties, you name it! haha

Well, she acted broody until their roo decided it was time to go outside. She didn't touch the nesting box again, and still hasn't. So, it's been brought in and put in the fridge.

Ah well...here's to young hens and learning!

If you want a broody I would put half a dozen fake eggs or golf balls in the nest. Hens usually wait until there's a nest full before sitting.

Thank you for the advice! I want to breed these birds - I've got roughly 24 production layers in another coop/pasture area for our eggs.

just pulled 4 eggs never thought to add some golf balls to get them to set, thanks for the information.

It helps to keep them laying in the nest box also. Bantams, especially Old English, tend to like to hide their nest of eggs.

The two eggs we've gotten have been hidden in the back of the nest box. I always know when we're getting an egg, that's the only time I catch her in there!
