My little cockerel was trying to crow this morning

Thanks, thought I'd try here first before looking at commercial programs again. Seems like I'll have to brood a third batch of babies this year unless I can magically make a chicken swap this weekend that's 3 hours away. At least I know my build was working, so long as it was locked up.Wish you were closer as I would definitely help you out!

That's actually not a bad idea. Never had so many chicks before either! Though I guess I could sell off the extras and have my pick of the litter, so to speak. I had my perfect set of ten of twelve pullets, which was all I can keep in the city. Guess it wasn't meant to be.I have a black, birchen, fawn silver, blue tailed buff, and buff laced to rehome. Also a splash cochin bantam. But I don't know how much it would cost to ship them to you from Maryland
I know you don't want to "start over" but since you like an assortment of breeds you could always get in on Ideal's bantam special, which is $32.50 for 25 chicks. I have quite a few birds from them and they aren't show quality but you get a great assortment and they are sweet birds.

I love those colors. But I worry about the shipping stress over that distance!
I'm a sucker for a sale and pulled the trigger. I added a few oegbs on just to make sure I got them, and mathed out to get 20 new babies here in 2 weeks. That will give me time to prep, recover and rebuild. Maybe the third time is the charm.... and I guess I just won't ever leave town overnight either...My feelings exactly on all accounts. Shipping stress...etc.
Having so many chicks can be overwhelming but its easy to pick out what you think you might want and sell off the rest, get it down to a manageable number and such. Extra boys are a pain, as always, but people love to buy up my extra bantam pullets since bantams are rarely sold in the stores around here, except the straight run at tractor supply (which are generally only ever MF d'uccle, silkie, or BBR or silver duckwing OEGBs).
I am going away in September for 6 days and I am already worried about having my husband in charge. I think I will tell him not to bother free ranging because I am worried he will forget to close upI lost one of my favorite little cockerels late last week, my first predator loss of the year, and we have been going after foxes left and right but you can't be too careful where I am. The foxes are almost as bad as the ticks. Thankfully the crows are keeping the hawks at bay so they are not as much of a worry right now.

Looking for boys, but at 2 months, I've got some pretty girls.
