Show off your Peas!

She might... many of my chicken hens will take any baby (duckling, chick, peachick, keet), just never had a broody peahen, so I don't really know.

Dirty, dirty, birds

Gracie got this in one of the pea nest a little while ago, it had already eaten one egg and had another in it's mouth, i got it away from it before it broke it and cleaned it up, if that egg hatches i will name it snake bait, the hen went back to the nest and i am waiting to get the fresh egg, the other 2 remaining eggs got flooded in the rain before i found the nest.

She paraded around all the birds with this poor snake

Aww sorry you lost one, probley a snake, if i let my guinea hens keep their keets they will loose every single one of them in 2 day, one time they raised 1 keet to adulthood and it took 7 of them to do it, now ducks and chickens do way better with babies around here, i wondered about peas, guess i will pen mine up instead of letting my hens raise um up.

They are adorible

Peachick time is always full of tragedy

I don't think our gene pool can produce a white pea(?).
So, I think the little guy must be a BS.

And by the way: Good job, Gracie. What a good protector!

New2,Casportpony,,you both may laugh at me,,(and no,I havn't been in the merlot yet) but when I pull a tray of eggs out to candle them at about 2 weeks,if the tray sits for maybe 2-3 minutes I can tell by the heat retention in the egg 99% of the time if it's gonna be dark when I candle it.I hand turn eggs daily and as time gets closer to hatch if you hold an egg for maybe 30 seconds you can feel it is cooler or not staying hot.Growing chicks inside of eggs stay very warm for a very long time compared to non fertile,or very early quitters. Next time you candle eggs try it but candle them first and seperate good from bad then hold one of each in opposite hands, you can feel one getting cooler compared to the viable one.
