Pretty Pooch!

As for the caterpillar, I wouldn't touch. You have several varieties of moth caterpillars down your way with stinging hairs on them. And I'd bet my bottom dollar that's one of 'em.

i know about them when i was a child i put my knee on one climbing a tree and it flipped and stung my knee, i had a terrible reaction and had to be taken to the hospital course i fell 15 feet to the ground when it stung me, i still have a scar on my leg from it 2 little little rows of white dots we call them asp here but not sure what their tecky name is but i do watch for them certain times of the year cause they will just fall out of the trees and sting you if they happen to land on you, my DH got stung a couple years ago.

We got another one here that looks like a white fluffy down feather saw a few on the fence line way out back and thought to myself something done got a pea and when i went to pluck one of them feathers off the fence to examine it.darn thing moved, freaked me out so i got a stick and knocked it off and there on the other side was them little suction cups, i left the area
This is what we call an asp

i will find a photo of the fluffy white one i took some photos but it is easer to look for one on google.

Definitely a stinging guy, look out!

I couldn't resist looking it up, yikes, from Wikipedia. (It turns into a "crowned slug moth" -- there's a name for ya

Limacodidae or Euclidae is a family of moths in the superfamily Zygaenoidea or the Cossoidea;[1] the placement is in dispute. They are often called slug moths because their caterpillars bear a distinct resemblance to slugs.[2] They are also called cup moths because of the shape of their cocoons.[2]
The larvae are often liberally covered in protective stinging hairs, and are mostly tropical, but occur worldwide, with about 1000 described species and probably many more as yet undescribed species.

and...

Many Limacodidae larvae are green and fairly smooth (e.g. Yellow shouldered slug, pictured), but others have tubercles with urticating hairs and may have bright warning colours. The sting can be quite potent,[5] causing severe pain.

So.... x3!
