Show off your Peas!

I guess mine are definitely in the pet category as I don't make money at all. I was selling yearling ib cocks for 45 and yearling hens for 50. That's all the market supported where I lived close to Lincoln. Here however I can get 65 to 75 for cocks and 80 to 90 for hens. It only 2 1/2 hours south and west but apparently not many folks have them around here?:hi

Now for pics from today...

the point on giving away is good karma...it keeps your name in the good.......and I have been blessed by the breeders with great deals....some of them were for free...so you have to give back otherwise it is GREED.....I still have you on that giveaway....I didn't forget...

It is nice and it isn't. I always feel like a burden. I don't go around spending my parent's money like crazy I hate spending money, but at the same time I have all these things I want to do that of course cost money.

I am in an advertising class right now. I am going to college for graphic design. I might take over my Mom's promotional product business once she retires (if she ever wants to), but I am not sure yet. I want a job that I love. My Dad was a probation officer and now he is retired. He hated his job. It gave him a heart attack from all the stress so he retired after that. So I don't want something like that.

I don't know how you find the time to do all the stuff you do working every day! My mom definitely works past 5 every day, but even she takes weekends off and she runs her whole business all by herself without any employees. She works out of the house. I feel really bad for her she can't build the house she wants on the waterfront property we have. The expenses would be too high and that really was her dream. She is really stressed about it today.

take your time focus and be persistent and you will accomplish a whole lot...set goals and what birds you want and make it happen......where there is a will there is a way...and you already have a start with a starter flock...I set a goal to have a "go big or go home" mentality and within 8 months...theres 12 breeder pens of different kinds of pheasants....and three sets of peafowl...and my goal for next year this same time...is to be double that...also getting into quail and chuckars as well....so keep your head up....

So were the new runs the most expensive part or did the feed costs add up to be the most expensive? Do you have 41 peafowl like what your signature says or do you have more?

My Mom might have some figures for 2014 regarding peafowl expense. I know she helps my Dad keep track of his expenses with land stuff and hunting.

The new runs totaled $2032 and the feed bill was $3506, and after a quick head count I have 42 Peacocks. Now some of you mentioned using the family's chicken feed for your Peas, but here the 7 chickens, 3 guineas and 1 turkey get to mooch off the Peafowl. Since I can deduct the Peas food as a business expense, the other birds get the leftovers, and I sell their feathers as well, so technically it counts. We should just be glad I am not your parent and you guys are not my kids, or we would be totally overrun with Peacocks, sometimes checks and balances are a very good thing!

My peafowl math is all askew. Babies don't count for me. Neither does my blind peahen. The yearling doesn't count either.

So I really only have 7 peafowl!!!

Thanks for the cost break down.

Well I would be fine if Blue Creek was my brother and you were my mother. I love my parents, but sometimes I wish they were into birds too. I love talking about birds, and they quickly get tired of me going on and on about bird stuff. I can always talk to the dog. Currently she wants my attention. She keeps moving my hand off of the keyboard and biting it. I will have to play with her in a minute.

Haha I have 7 peafowl total. I am not sure what is the most I have had at one time. I had maybe 12 or more at one time because 2 of my peahens hatched out peachicks.

Yes, I can see my DH's eyes go cloudy as he starts to drift after roughly 2 minutes of bird talk. Play with your dog she deserves it, as she will always be interested in what you have to say.
