Show off your Peas!

Do you have a photo of them next to each other or can you get one? My Black shoulder hen always looks like the biggest peahen to me, but then when I see another hen stand next to her, I realize she isn't really bigger or at least not by much. I think there is something about that black shoulder color combination that tricks your eyes into thinking the peahen is bigger than she really is.

By bigger do you mean height or body size? Green peafowl are usually thinner, but yes greens and Spaldings are usually taller. Thora isn't very high % so maybe she didn't get those tall genes at all. Marshmallow might have better genes for height. Is Marshmallow the dominant bird? Lower ranking peahens can sometimes look smaller than they actually are, because they don't stand up as high when they are around the dominant peahen.
I'm talking about height. I think Marshmallow is dominant because she has all her crest feathers while Thora doesn't anymore,

This photo was a few weeks ago when we were still in the 20*-30*. Could it just be the Marshmallow keeps stretching herself out while Thora keeps her head low like in the photo?

They look the same size to me. I think you are right Marshmallow might be dominant now. Thora must be acting submissive a lot she is lowered down just like what I was picturing when I was telling you how the lower ranking hens don't stand up tall. Well I guess Blackshoulder peahens have something in common...They are the boss! The dominant hen in my pen is my blackshoulder Ice.

How big is this new pen? I love it! It looks like something a Zoo would have.

Its 50 x 25 with 12 feet height, it was an old green house used for plants so we changed the green mesh with a fence, and 80% of the things used in this pen were used stuff we collected from our farm, i only spent around $150 more to make this pen
