I think think the yellow comes from the oil gland just above their tails, that they use to preen with. It is brighter or paler depending largely on the proteins they get, I'm not sure corn would affect that or not. I remember someone posting about a white peacock that was kept with flamingos (or rather, the pea stayed in that enclosure by choice at the zoo) and ate the things the flamingos ate, and the pea was really yellow.
