Show off your Peas!

I took a few photos of some of my peacocks recently. It wasn't very sunny out so most of the photos I took ended up not being keepers. All the photos I got of the peahens with their yearling sons were blurry.

This is Alto on a log. I like putting some of their food ontop of the logs. Right now I am feeding them a mix of cracked corn with some small seeds mixed in and the brown stuff is catfish chow that they get every day and the tiny orange-brown looking stuff is ultrakibble which I give them little sprinkles of each day.

I have been wanting to get a nice full body photo of Alto so I thought this one was pretty good to show the length of his train. I still feel like it looks a bit short when he displays so I think it might get a little longer... Last year he had about four double eye feathers, this year I think he only has two.




When Alto was Peep's age, he only had one short little eye feather, but Peep has five eye feathers. I love Peep's train because of the one long eye feather he has. This is what Peep's train looks like:


It is hard to see all five eye feathers... One is on the side so it is hard to see...
I have two dog boxes stacked in the corner of the smaller pen connected to their pen and Peep jumped into the top one today and I asked him how he was going to get out...He turned around in there and I told him he was going to bend his nice long eye feather if he kept doing that. One day I found Alto stuck in the top dog box because his train was too long for him to turn around. Normally they don't jump in there...I left the boxes in there just for the peahens to nest in but sometimes the peacocks feel like jumping inside.

Minx is the protein level in catfish chow like 32% is that healthy for peas?

We will have to look and see what the % is.... I figured they need some extra protein in the winter, but I will check.
My mom says, "Other than the gills they have grown they seem to be fine."

Wait till next year i bet peeps has a beautiful train..Master P had one puney eye feather that did not even have an eye and look at him this year.

Well, finally! Zazous said he wanted to show off a bit!



And Dilly was turned on just enough that she gave me 2 nice treats from him and her.



Why, yes, yes I am going to put them in the incubator, though I do not have high hopes of them hatching. It got down to 17 here last night and even though they were in the barn I am thinking the eggs got too cold. But I won;t know until I try, right?



Now Zazous wants his treats! He has shown enough, he says.



My handsome boy!



Now to catch the others in action! Whoopie!

mine can't display there is still over a foot of snow in the pens.

They have to eat and drink in the shed. They can go outside but the space is very limited. They do fly up to the perches and stay there til nightfall

Some of the males trains are getting broken - where the heck is SPRING!!!!!
