Mr.Tubbs is growing into a handsome fella.
He is the first one to take a peice of cheese from my hand after that he just kept pecking my fingers and fanning his tail at my hand.. silly boy
Well, I have read all the pages up until now so I figure I might as well go ahead and share my few with you all. Mine are not home yet but we are working hard to get the pens finished for them or move birds out so I can bring them home.
Here is Godiva and Hershey, the Bronze pair. This was taken some weeks ago and his train has grown a good bit. I just need to get better photos. I believe they are about 5 years old but we are still checking into the records.
Here are the Opals. He is also a BS WE. Although the hen with the orange on her is split to Peach, we think. The man that owned them passed away about a year ago and no one understands his record keeping nor did he tag the birds. I may cross her with a Cameo. I am not sure yet. The Opal pair is living at my friend's farm now. I hope to get eggs to hatch this spring! I have come to love the Opals!
This is a silver pied pair, about 10 years old. I have named the cock Zazous, after Zazouse on here because she has inspired me so much and for the beauty of this handsome bird! The hen is called Dilly.
A gorgeous IB BS WE I named Majesty. I was thrilled when the person said I could have him and his lady, too! They are about 10 years old, as well and are absolutely gorgeous!
Here he is with his lady, Stars!
Another photo of the Opal BS pair that have gone to live with my friend. I quickly ran out of room and energy for so many birds given to me.
The handsome Majesty.
Another shot of Zazous.
Here is a IB hen in with the Bronze pair. Last year she went broody after being bred by the Bronze boy, Hershey and was sitting on eggs when the co-owner came to feed and water them. Since he only came about once a week to feed and water everyone he did not know how long she had been on the eggs so he left her to it and she hatched out a male. That one is also coming to me but I do not have a photo of him yet. Not sure who I will breed her to this next year since I am still learning about their colors and genetics.
Another one of Zazous. I love the silver pied and thought they were my favorites. However, I am now at the point they are ALL my favorites!
The other silver pied pair is Velocity and Tempo. They are an unrelated pair to the others and are only 2 years old.
I have much to learn and a long way to go but am so honored to have been given all these birds to help continue a legacy of someone that loved peafowl long before I was born and worked to breed some real beauties. I only wish I had gotten to meet him before he passed away but am more than grateful to his co-breeder for allowing me this opportunity to try my hand at this.
More photos to follow as I go over and feed and water them every few days. They are still getting used to me going in and out of their pens. I can't wait to bring them home!
Thank you! I am trying to absorb all I can so I will do my best by them.
We only have 2 pens going up right now here on my farm for them but they are 10x30 so I hope they will be comfortable and maybe I can have trios instead of just pairs.
These will be their covered bays that will be 10x10 and the covered pen part will be 10x20 for each one. They will be side by side for every 2 pens since I am trying to build as my land lays. However, that may take much more material.
Yes, the turkey was helping!
You can see the turkey hen above John's head in this photo. She and the boys are saying nothing can be more wonderful than they are! LOL Oh, I think they are going to be surprised!
