Show off your Peas!

My bebes are growing up!

I so hope this is a girl! I am getting her DNA tested to be sure. I have a buyer if it is a boy but I want a girl.

Bronze girl in the back.

I have 3 IB BS and I am pretty sure all are boys! Ugh! And you see Wunky there on the left. Bless his heart, he does so well with that snake crooked neck.

I hope I have them well covered for the winter. Of course, they will have to be moved out of this 8x8 wire bottom pen in another 2 months, I am sure. I need to get their next pen finished!

This photo is bad because I only had my phone, but I was busy yesterday so my mom fed the peafowl for me. Well, she did something she has done before which is leave the pen door open. I am starting to think I need those doors with a spring that close and latch themselves. Needless to say all of the peafowl got out and today she was able to herd the peas back into the pen (all of them were right by the pen pecking around). One of them got spooked somewhere along the way and the one that was spooked was my yearling peacock, Smarty. He flew up into an oak tree in the neighbor's yard. With the neighbor's permission I went over to try and coax him down with his favorite treats but he just got comfy up on his branch. He was standing on the branch before I walked up but once I walked up he lay down on it. I gave up and started feeding the peafowl and I could see him in the tree from the peafowl pen. He was standing again, with his neck turned watching me feed as if he was thinking, "Hey, they are eating without me!!!" Well...I got distracted feeding and petting Peep so when I looked up again he was not on the branch. I walked over to the neighbor's again and I didn't see him anywhere. Later my parents went to my Grandmas (where the peas are) and said Smarty was waiting at the pen door. My mom tried to put him in the pen but that only scared him. When I showed up he was wandering around the yard moving very quickly. I stayed my distance and followed him as he took a long route around the back that eventually looped back to the pen. When he got close to the pen he ran to it but I couldn't get him in the door and he flew to the other side of the yard and started walking again. I started to follow him but I realized it wouldn't work this time. Around 5:30 we went back and finally using the truck and a rake and a metal rod, we blocked his exits so he had no choice but to walk into the pen. Once he realized all exits were blocked, he noticed the open door and then he ran inside. Unfortunately Peep got out while the door was open and Peep always flies on top of the covered pen and won't come down so after what seemed forever trying to reach for him my dad was able to grab him. I am glad everyone is back in the pen! Smarty is for sale by the way.

Not mine but wanted to share. This is one of the friendly birds at sasquatch zoo in Crestview.Fl. About an hour away from me.

Glad you got em all in. I hate those kinds of adventures, Hope its a girl Amy. Its a darn shame they cant be vent sexed. Boy that would make things easy. They do look good.

Very nice! I love it when my spalding peacock is eating with a whole bunch of ducks running through his legs. My ducks don't mind him at all. Typically when I feed the birds in the aviary I hold the food scooped out and the pheasants get around and under me. Next in the procession are the ducks. They easily eat out of the dish that I hold but I tried seeing if they would eat from my hand. The ringed teal did (have only had them for two weeks and they are just so friendly). The smew and hooded merganser hen who usually are very friendly would just bits my fingers and be afraid to eat the food... Sorry about this being off topic.

Thanks, Yep I love it too. i guess my first ones up are the cans ,red-crested and some of this years baikals that I kept. Not off topic to me. Where else should people talk about combinations such as peafowl, pheasants and/or ducks combinations on BYC. Uncharted territory,LOL! Matter of fact my only real fear in the long run is having a health problem of some kind with the two or three combined. I do worm the peas and try to keep it sanitary and dry (haha)the best I can. So far so good .Thank God. I really spent alot of time being with my birds today. They are all healthy and happy Im glad to report. It did my soul good! The pecking order seems to be a little lopsided right now. Goldilocks rules over the new green hen ,the new green hen rules over the big green male. And the big green male rules over goldilocks. Nothing major at all though. I figured on the white one (goldilocks) dominating the new bird but it kinda surprises me that the new hen stands up to the male like she does. Ill see how this all works out when breeding season rolls around.
