Are you sure a snake ain't getting her eggs if you are sure she is ready to lay, don't think she can stop mother nature there, if she was mad about the nest she will just lay anywhere IMOMy hen refuses to lay since she wants her old nest back. Everybody that lives in Idaho in my area that has peafowl they are getting eggs but my hen won't lay without her old nest back.
My aviary with ducks is just a mess. Somehow about 50% of the aviary still has grass. I try protecting all of my plants with a fence barrier. Took one away from the pampas grass and now that is just destroyed. My peafowl like to trample things as well! With just a pair of peafowl and mandarin pair in your spacious pen, I do not think grass should be an issue. For some reason they love destroying ornamental grass. they will trample it and even trample pampas grass. I would just get a bag of grass seed and spread it out around the pen. It seems like when there is a ton of grass they can't destroy it all. Although I can't be sure how ducks are with grass.
