Driving t-posts isn't that bad unless the ground is really hard and dry.

unless it is a wet spot them you can push them in by hand, so weird.

Oh bye the way we killed about a 20 lb coon this morning. We found it in a trap outside my pea pen this morning! I know something was trying to get in. It is chain link fencing with chicken wire about 4' high on the inside. It has chicken wire on the 6' fencing. It is about 40' x 30' sitting on RR ties the coop is a8' x 10 metal building sitting on RR ties. I keep them locked up at night in the coop. There is no way for anything to get in but still shakes me up to find a coon trying too!

Margaret, what do you have for a top on your pen? Raccoons can get through a lot of stuff. One of my dogs has actually torn apart some of the chicken wire on the outside of my pen (it's actually broken), so once again, my confidence in chicken wire is low. I have it on top (I would prefer netting for safety), because the dogs, being dogs, can't get up there. But raccoons... can climb like anything.

Have you thought about running hot wire on the outside of your pen? I know @MinxFox has had the worst time of anyone ever with raccoons... not sure how she finally managed to keep them out, but maybe she can suggest something. If there's one 20 lb raccoon, then there are more...

I love wildlife, but not enough to feed my peas to a raccoon if I can help it

yes, if I have to dig a hole, I have to run the water from a hose (or a bucket), and sometimes I have to let it soak, dig a couple inches, let it soak again for a couple hours or overnight, dig another few inches.... When the clay sets up, I pretty much have adobe.

I have chicken wire in the top + I lock them is the coop at night. I have a chin on the front door and a doggie door with a lock in the back. I also a motion detector light on the pen. When the light comes on I can see it from our bedroom an from the den. I can also hear them when they start raising h---. I have guineas with them!

And.... We reset the trap. They seam to like cat food.

Going to make a hat out of it?

We have some resident buzzards across the road use your imagination!

Buzzards are good to have around, they let me know when something is dead on my place, i find squirrels ,rabbit left overs ,coon left overs, armadillo left overs and even snakes.

Margaret is going to make a buzzard hat?

No, wait...

Margaret is going to make little raccoon caps for Zaz's buzzards?

My imagination is having so much fun... I'm just sure those buzzards are going to have a wonderful Christmas

Maybe we can take up a collection of feathers and fit them with little pea-trains so they don't envy the peas... (The first thing I typed there was just wrong..)

Then someone can write a book about the "Guardians of Zazouse," and then they will make a movie about it, raccoon hats and tiny pea-trains and all.

Yeah, they think cat food and dog food are candy. I once came outside (years ago, in another state), trying to find out why all h*ll was breaking loose with my three big dogs under the porch, and I almost got taken out by a really p.o.'d raccoon that came boiling up over the porch railing with all three dogs about one snap behind it.

I dunno what taking on a wolverine would be like, but I never wanna deal with another enormous, really angry raccoon when I'm decked out in a bathrobe and bare feet ever again.

I think the only reason the dogs didn't tear it apart was that even they realized that thing was about 20 pounds of pure teeth and claws, and a full quart of spit and hiss.
