Show off your Peas!

He tried to tether a pea???????

Sorry but that bring tears to my eyes, they love their freedom so.

It was for 4-H, and they knew nothing about peafowl. There needed to be a much stronger educational component.

Ya my 4-h doesn't know anything about poultry bc not many people in colorado do poultry but they should know atleast some things about it but they dont and it angers me bc this is my first year and they have no idea.

How hard is it to get on the internet and start learning??? Yea angers me too. I had no idea how hard a pea could launch themselves until I actually seen them do it. Same with curled feet, first time I had curled toes and that was with a chicken, mind you, I was on the NeT looking for answers!

Actually, it can be pretty hard... when I first started, I was all over the net, but the info I needed didn't turn up.

Nate, I was thinking 4-H had educational booklets for different projects like raising this and raising that, don't they?

What kind of booklets are there for poultry projects? Is there a peafowl or gamebird booklet?

All six of my peababies got spraddle leg from hatching and mom pushing out of nest onto a slick surface at hatch. Orphan Annie was the worst cuz she got out on slick laminate surface in my bedroom.

They are all fine now after taping. The neighbor kid kept asking why I had their legs taped with purple tape! I think he thought I was implementing some kind of torture.

I must say, I have learned more from this site than any other place on the web, you guys rule.

I have lost my share due to sickness before I learned what works and doesn't work, kskingbee is right, if you have a soft heart there is nothing worse than having one of those gorgeous birdies dying in your arms.

Oh if I saw a bird struggling against a tether, something in my brain would say "hey this ain't working!!!".

Oh my now I am all fired up!!

Also, for @nate1the1great1 and all you other kids in 4-H, if you have an advisor that has no experience with peafowl, if you can get your advisor to get on here to the peafowl forum, we can give them lots of good info so your local group can get pea-smart. We would be glad to help with that
