Show off your Peas!

Did you worm them after you bought them? It can be good to worm a new bird because sometimes people don't worm their birds at all, or they say they have been wormed recently when in actuality it wasn't that recent.

You were penning the peahens for a month or more before you let them out right?

That is weird that the one year old peahen left. Normally it is the peacock that wanders off and never comes back.

Yeah I wormed them I try to make them as healthy as possible even brought one to the vet once! And yeah I had them penned for 3 months:/

Wow well I hope the next peahen you get stays put. That is very weird. The only thing left that I can think of is maybe if you can somehow pen one of your peacocks with the next peahen(s) you get, then they will get to know one of the peacocks so that being introduced to free-ranging will be a little easier since the peacock already knows where to stay and they will already know him so hopefully he would show them around. I am not sure though. I quit free-ranging after my first pair left. The peacock left then a week later the peahen left probably looking for him. I decided that I wasn't around enough to keep an eye on them and I would feel less worried having them all penned up, but free-ranging is the best. I hope you have better luck!!

is it a good idea to house peas in with ducks...anyone have experience in this...I am building a 30 by 36 area with pond for ducks and I wanted to put a couple peas in with them but they are so much bigger...

Wow well I hope the next peahen you get stays put. That is very weird. 1080 ft2 is a pretty good size for two peas....I think...the pond will only take up about 200 ft2 going to try and get it to around 12 ft high as well...I was wondering if the two kinds would get along...ducks don't really move that fast...although they can fly and will have housing but will be open to whatever other bird is in there...I think it would be very pretty to have peas in there...and would be one less pen for me to build....have enough of the building going on right now...and its snowing like crazy and hands are froze within 15 minutes of doing work...one more small section to put up for wire....and then the netting and to cut the doors...and then ofcourse clean off the tops of all the pens...snow is building up...the peas look a little cold right now being so cold..there doing the one leg dance....does anyone keep peafowl out in this cold snowy stuff...when I had them in with the pheasants they would actually roost outside of the shelter and would barely go into the shelter...they would only go in to eat...and then they would be right back out....I don't know that's for sure..im just winging it and taking all the info in and using the useful stuff...gotta learn somehow...

30 by 36 really isn't big enough for a pond ducks and peacocks u might want to make it 50x50 bigger is ALWAYS better lol

1080 sq ft is big enough for ten peas. I am not sure how many ducks you plan on having in there, but my concern is the water quality. Even if you give the peas a separate water station the ducks can't get to, the peas will drink that stanky pond scum. I wouldn't do it.

@destinduck keeps peafowl in an aviary with ducks and a duck pond. He should be able to tell you more about space and how they do with each other.

You probably would have to worry about the ducks making the pen all muddy, especially since it snows where you are I figure you get lots of mud after the snow melts. Your white peafowl especially will get all dirty looking. White peafowl are nice looking when they are clean, but when they get dirty they don't look so magical and pretty.
