Show off your Red sex-links!! [[pictures included]] !! (:

Quote: In the pictures to me it looks like some Ameraucana, Ancona and Production Reds. There is no such thing as full blood Sex-Links, they are hybrids, crosses. I believe in the first part of this thread is a chart and information on the different crosses to produce many different Sex-Links.

Yea, I knew the RSL and BSL's are crosses........and that what ever the "crosses" were had a possibiity of showing up....and that this is not a "breed" This is the first time I've had them and was just expecting all brown eggs for some reason...Such a pleasure to have some EE colored eggs show up and surprise me!

I'm not surprised. The pictures you posted definitely had a couple of Ameraucanas and the black ones look like Anconas. It was a little difficult to tell for sure from the pictures what the black birds are, so I'm just guessing by what I see in the picture as to what breed they are. The Ameraucanas should lay bluish eggs and the Anconas should lay a whitish creamy colored egg and the ones that look like Production Reds should lay various shades of brown eggs.

These are eggs from my Sex-Links and Rhode Island Reds, Rhode Island Whites (brown eggs layers) and a white egg from one of my Leghorns. The dark egg in the picture was layed by one of my Red Sex-Links.

Edited for spelling.

One of the red stars turned 28 weeks the other day, still no eggs. Her mom has been laying, but that's about it. I have 18 RSL crosses in the bator, along with a polish and turkey egg. So well see :D

Most often they start laying from 20 to 26 weeks. Once in awhile you may get one that will start laying as early as 16 weeks or as late as around 30 weeks.

How many birds do you have and how old are they. From the picture in your previous post I see six birds of which 2 should lay blueish/greenish eggs. The other 4 in the picture should lay various shades of brown/cream colored eggs unless they are crosses where they may have the gene for the colored eggs.
