Awesome! Good luck with your chicks! :D

Quote: There is no such breed or even a hybrid called a Rhode Island Brown. A cross between a RIR or NHR male and a RIW female will make a Red Sex-Link. The crosses do not breed true so if you try to breed a Red Sex-Link, the chicks will come out all different colors both males and females. I have experimented in the past with several generations. The white or silver gene was the more dominant so with each generation I got more white chicks.

In this picture one of brown colored chicks is a female and the other a male.

My red sex-links don't fly to often but they do fly a little but they usually don't fly over 3-4 feet. I would say probably not.

Do your red sex links fly? If so how high? If I do a 4-5 foot fence, will they fly over?

All of my fences are 5' high. Once in a great while one has gone over. I had problems with hawks and owls so now I have netting over all of my pens.

How about the egg production after second generation..?

Thank you cmom! I really appreciate all of the input. This is great information. I've really never considered breeding chickens but then .... I never thought I'd own any either. LOL We were actually looking at more chicks at a feed store over the weekend. We decided we better wait and maybe add to our flock next spring. Maybe by then we'll have a better idea of what we are doing.
