Show Off Your Wins!

Well first off, I have to get my flock tested.

But for the specific show birds, I wash them with mite shampoo, permethrin, and water and trim their nails, spurs, and beaks, and vaseline their combs and legs
What do you have to do for the show? Do you have to do anything with the bird except for the judges looking them over?

At the show we attended, we brought the birds into the showroom in their carrying cages. They were health tested by the state official then we checked in and paid for our entry. After checking in, we located the coops our birds would be in and transferred them out of their travel cage to the show coop. Since there was limited space, we put the travel cages back in our vehicle. From there, we waited for judging. That was a time to check on the birds, do any last minute primping, look at other birds being shown, and meet with others.

Okay, I didn't know if you had to do any handling with the chickens or any tricks. Thank you!

At county fairs we have to bring them up and of course there is showmanship (I made a video on that
)
But at regular APA shows birds are judged in the cage with no exhibitor interference.

I attended my first show last October- 1 bird, but went again this January. Not many shows in FL that aren’t 5 days or longer, and personally, I have no desire to leave my birds at a show for longer than 2 nights. Hoping to show again in October and November though, and maybe actually get NPIP this year so I’m not limited to 2 shows a year.

Placements from January I’m proud of-
