You don't learn to walk without trying and falling. It is the same way with evaluating the birds.

I ALWAYS throw my critique out there AND then wait for Walt or Don to step in and correct me. Then I google some more on what I messed up on and try again.
There are NOT that many folks out there who KNOW what the SS should look like. . . at least we are trying to figure it out.

The Stringman shows at the big state fairs where they are showing for the payback from the show. In the old days they were shipped around by train. Even now in modern times some of them show 800-1000 fowl at a show. Some of these breeders have old lines of fowl they have had for years.

I've got two more cockerels for us to look at.... They are 18 weeks old today.
When we get done with these.... there is one more guy out there for me to catch and photograph.

I KNOW none of these guys are superstars..... but it is what it is.
I need to see which of these guys has the best potential.
They are starting to get nasty with each other and have ripped each others tail feathers out.

It is AMAZING to me that I provide them with this huge area to free range in,
YET they would rather stay close to each other so that they can sneak attack each other.
LITTLE TURDS that is what they are.... little turds.

Next up is Cockerel #20 . .. .

I LOVE this guy's long back. It looks like he may have a high tail angle ( if he had any tail feathers).
The legs long solid with a decent width.
The head and neck looks good. His comb is not perfect, but it is better than some of the others.

I think number #22, post #330 on page 33 is the biggest cockerel I have.

I like #22's size, but his shape is not as smooth as this boy's.

You call it a "topline" when you are looking at the flow down the neck, back, and up the tail.....What do you call the bottom - - when you look at the silhoutte from the chest, between the legs, and up the tail ? ?

He does have a 5 point comb, but I think it is suppose to come off the head instead of following the head.
To me his head seems small compared to his neck... His back is short too.

Can you get a picture from the front, back and top ? ?


I am going to sit back and see what snowbird and fowlman01 say about this guy.

It is very hard to evaluate the breed until they have gone through their Juvie molt.... around 4 - 5 months of age.
Even the ones I am posting are still a little young to be evaluating. Unfortunately, I need to then the cockerels down a little bit due to the fighting.

When yours get a little older, you will need to take pics of them one at a time for the best evaluation.
Also, you will need to take a pic from the front, top, side, and back. Plus, spread a wing and take a shot of it.

It is a LOT of work to take all these pics, but it helps the pros give you the best feed back.
