show quality speckled sussex ??

Pics
Just one more thing , the brown Fuzzy feathers on the breast will disappear soon as he is done molting.

Now the question everyone wants to know is he from a breeder and who.

I hope this is clear enough

On the Lower right, is that the "Diamond" that we are talking about ? ? ?

On a show bird, not a breeder bird, we would want to see more of these "diamonds", RIGHT ? ?

What Don is saying is what another breeder told me. They use a breeder male that is too dark to help produce chicks with the correct amount of white.
If you use a show quality roo as a breeder, he will tend to produce chicks that have too much white.

DON, Am I correct ? ?

Lisa, on the breast and other parts of the body the diamond will look like it is horizontal instead of vertical. There really is nothing that says the diamond should be a certain size that I know of. For color what I like on this male is the nice Mahogany color on him. Also take a look at the female in the picture.

Somehow I missed this post and just want to comment now. I do not know if you answered this already but ths this male come from a breeder or a Hatchery ? Everyone please take a look at how wide he is in chest and even though the back is a little short, look at how wide it actuall is anyway.

If a person had a male like this and some decent SOP type SS female you set down a line of SS real quick. This male has the right amount of white to be a good breeding male.

I asked where she got him earlier too...... I don't think she has said yet. I'd REALLY love to know!!!

Sorry, I missed these Questions...........My Rooster and Hen did not come from a breeder. I ordered 9 female chicks from Mypetchicken.com I did not want a rooster at all.... as they grew and i noticed that we had a rooster. I wanted to get rid of him right off and My DH said that we need to give him a chance (he wanted a rooster). Well, Ducky grew on me and he was not an awful rooster and he found a huge place in my heart this February.

Curious seems to have a reasonably broad back, and her tail is not pinched. I think. I'm not so good at judging the pinched tail.

Interesting that they came from a hatchery.

Have you introduced yours to treats ? ? If not, start getting them trained to associate you with good things. My birds come running when they hear me callling because I am the "treat" lady. I start training them to the treats while they are still penned. Then I use the treats to motivate them when they are out free ranging.

They don't really fly away at this age. They might walk away, but flying is not a big issue.

I have 16 girls and when I want to take pics I get a handful of treats and recruit some extra help. ...
Someone needs to hold them to get the wing shot. The rest of the shots you can take as they are walking around.

I just follow mine around and snap as they go. The extra person helps corral them back if they start roaming the wrong way.
It takes patience.... I get two or three birds done at a setting.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have introduced treats, whether it's mealworms, sunflower seeds (with and without shells), Millet, Amaranth, worms from my garden, or dandelion leaves.

I'm just a little nervous about letting them out. I certainly wouldn't let them all out at one time. Just a nervous new mom.

Are y'all peeps aware of the dangers of feeding GMO feed to your chickens? If you feed has corn or soy in it and it's not organic than chances are, it's GMO. I came across this article on naturalnews.com and it mentions specifically that a pathogen in the GMO feed can kill a chicken embryo in 24-48 hours. It doesn't mention what it would do to an older chick or chicken. There are a lot of dangers to feeding GMO to your animals, in addition to the dangers of you eating the eggs that come from them. You can do an internet search on GMO dangers for animals and humans. Jeffrey Smith is an expert in this field and has videos out on youtube and DVD on the dangers, called "Seeds of Deception." You can also find youtube videos of him being interviewed by many different news organizations.
