I don't see anything in the SOP that sets a standard for the white speckle. It does say the black bar should be narrow and that the white should be diamond shape. I don't see how there could be any points off for either big or small white spangles as long as they are where they are suppose to be (tip of feather) , the appropriate shape (diamond like) and separated from the rest of the feather by a thin black bar.

Lisa and All, Here are the faults and Dqs from the ABA. Before I list them must say that I have contacted Walt about unifying the APA-ABA standard for the SS. This is one time where the APA SOP is very Vague and the ABA really goes in Depth.

ABA speckled Plumage .

DQs- Solid white feathers showing in any section of the plumage.

Defects+
Large white spangling giving bird an overall too white appearance- Lack of spangling in Back, Breast, and Lower Body-Uneven shades of Mahogany Bay in Plumage of female- White tips that run into the Dark sections of feathers giving a gray and smudgy appearance- White tips that are Marred with tiny ticks of black, giving a Gray and Smudgy appearance. This is related to improper ground color and improper marking.

Let me also say that when breeding any of these fowl with the Spangles that the young fowl that are spangled good enough as young fowl will normally be too white when they are adults. We must keep some of the young fowl that are too dark as most will color up for the adults.

Don,

Can you explain WHY the BACK is judged so heavily in the SS? What are they looking for that would justify the heafty 12 pt value of the back?

Total pts. Pts from Shape Pts from Color

Back 12 (WOW) 6 6

Tail 8 4 4

Wings 8 3 5
