I will second this! I get the best pics when I ZOOM in using the telephoto abilities to sit back and watch.
I find sitting on the ground is a non-threatening position and gives you a better perspective for the side and front shots.

Take a soda out and plan on sitting out there for 5 - 10 minutes BEFORE you even try to take a pic. This gives them time to FORGET that you are there.

What I notice is when looking at them from the top is that both of them are a lot wider through the shoulders and get narrow at the at the back (tail end). it looks more like a triangle, and I think it's supposed to look more like a rectangle. I think they are supposed to carry the width from the front to the back. It could be the way they are being held though.

The width should carry back through the beginning of the tail. In a mature bird the width travels even farther, but it is because of the tail feathers.

Ok...been fighting off a nasty infection in my leg so I finally got out there to tackle some chickens with the help of my handly chicken-catching 7yr old.

Some pictures of my Roo "Radar"
A little dirty but those are white feet

(Keep in mind we live in Michigan and keeping the cold off the comb is darn near impossible!)

Shot of him from above...couldn't put him down to get a natural shot. Yes, his wings are too white.

These are two of the girls I hatched out this spring

I might get them out and scrub their feet and retake pictures. When cleaned up for show they look great! Any brown-ish you see is just dirt.

Ohhh, I'd love to have a pullet or two, if you are going to sell at some point. Your culls will be my eye candy!

x2 I've been lurking because I enjoy the breed, but I'm not going to be breeding them up. I have one pullet and one cockerel that I hatched from Gabbard Farms eggs in April. I would certainly be interested in buying a few more pullets when you decide to par down.

Well, they are way too young to judge at just 11+ weeks, but my little pullet is my friendliest little chicken, and here she is just for fun: (It has been quite hot...)

I had two cockerels, but sold the other. (Pretty sure these are the same guy.)

I certainly don't think they are show quality, but I can post their pictures when they are older if critiquing them would be instructive.
I've been enjoying reading/lurking on this thread!

ABSOLUTELY!
We need pics of birds with faults....

In education we call it - NON-EXAMPLES.

You can learn by examples, i.e. This is what a speckled sussex should look like ........

You can also learn by non-examples, i.e. This is NOT what a speckled sussex should look like. ...

It is sweet of you to offer ChestnutRidge.
When your stock gets older, please post pics so that we can practice our critiquing skills.

Let the critiques began .. . .
I have 16 pullets that we are going to need to look at and evaluate! NOT all at one time, of course!
The trick here is that I am going to need to keep track of the results.... We will need to identify the top 5.

So, with each pullet - -- we need to identify its strengths and weaknesses.

Starting the show with pullet # 16, simply because she was willing to pose first...

This girl is about 5 months old....

Don,
On a scale of 1 ( cull) to 5 ( Perfect: Keep and Show) where is this girl . . . . .
