Candykeels, there are most likely less than 6-10 breeders of SOP type sheckled Sussex around the USA and most raise very few if any young chicks. Look a few pages back at the males that is pictured Indianfeathers and notice the color and the real breed type. This is the kind of males you would need to raise some SOP type chicks from your pullet.

I see I was posting at the same time as snowbird, so I see where I was wrong on some things, but would still like to know about my question on the tail.

The Sewell print is not the correct angle, it looks at about 30. I think Lisa is just using the paint as a referrence point. The SOP has diagrams showing the different angles . This pullet is not very high and you would go by the top of the tail angle. The cushion also seems a little high making the tail look higher than it might actually be.

No worries, thanks for your input. I never expected Sally to be perfect, nothing is. I was jusr curious. I am still gonna show her regardless...i think it will be fun!

If you have an APA SOP look at page 115 of the 2010 edition for an illustration of the SS that shows the proper tail angle.

Candykeels......You could show the bird. It is not perfect, but it is good enough to show. It is also a chance to see what showing is like.

Identifing where some of the better SS are coming from would be helpful to those of us who want to try to do the best we can by the breed.....

So, where did this pullet come from ? ? ?

I am assuming that if someone posts a bird for critiquing that they are really wanting to learn what to look for.....

So using an example of something better helps with the learning....

I learned a lot when indianfeathers posted her picture of the rooster.

Snowbird can tell me all the things that need to be corrected on a bird, but personally, I don't fully absorb the information until I see the example of a good bird. So, I did include the Sewell print to help illustrate what I was seeing as areas needing improvement. It is pretty close to the standard of 35 degree angle for females. . ....

Going through photos came across this from a show last year. There is a gent here in VA that breeds nice bantams, Clarence Fields.

***sorry about blue in pics- wrong camera setting**

So this is the correct stance of the tail correct? Kinda level with the back?

I am wondering the same thing....
