show quality speckled sussex ??

#78 is more correct, fluff should be slaty brown and undercolor of all sections slate, shading to salmon, the salmon shading to light gray at base. I took all that out of the SOP for Speckled Sussx, color- female

Do you have the correct under color yet? I was told by my breeder that the salmon undercolor was one of the last things to show up.
If your birds have it... Can you get a picture of it?

Also, do you remember when it showed up? I know when I took pictures of my birds at 16 weeks, they did not have it yet.

Hi Cowchick

Do you still have your Blue 57 cockerel that you showed in pictures?

Are you going to be at the PNPA show in Salem OR in October?

Nice patterns on your SS pullets. Did you get that stock from Tony Albritton?

Beautiful birds CowChick, my personal favorite is orange 80, to me she looks the prettiest, nicest pattern, and color............. but I ain't no judge, will leave that to the experts here on the forum, but keep me in mind oif ya ever want to sell that Pullet#80 that is........LOL Ty for posting the pictures. Kim

What I posted I took directly from the SOP! I even labeled it. I'll try to check under color when I weigh.

I just did a quick look back at the first post on this thread and found....

UNDERCOLOR of all sections: SLATE, shading to salmon, the salmon shading to light gray at base.

According to the breeder I am working with, his better birds tend to have the salmon undercolor. However, it does look like the standard allows for a range of color for the undercolor of the Speckled Sussex. I was just wondering if you were seeing it yet. My breeder acted like it would be one of the last items to show up with all the molts the birds do during their juvie time

Ty for posting the pictures. Kim

Its not out of my 9 roosters only 2 were worth keeping, and both turned into demons at 6 months old, so they are in the freezer or the worst one was already eaten with relish............ so my little project is on hold until I find a nice rooster to use. my hens are doing well all but my egg eater she is also in the freezer....made me awful mad to find out my Jasmine was the egg eater, she had the best type of all my hens, also the best color, but such is life I didn't want her teaching all my chickens to eat eggs..... argggggg just not having good luck with these beauty's, my Dels are however doing wonderful, and I'm hoping next year to have a bunch of those. This year I hactched a few test eggs they look pretty good, but mostly rooster, they are destined for freezer camp unfortunately, but theere is always next year.....
I will be keeping my eyes open for a good SS rooster though so if ya hear of anyone with a good roo let me know. Kim
