show quality speckled sussex ??

Hello again; My original SS were from MurrayMcMurray. They are very nice hatchery birds, but SMALL. Rooster 6.5 lbs., hens about 4.4 lbs. I would like some better birds, but love the breed based on the group I already have. Mary

Tonight I weighed my young birds; 22 week old SS from Meyers Hatchery. I kept the largest of seven cockrels; he weighs 6.75 lbs. the pullets weigh4.8 to 5 lbs. each. Hatchery birds, but much larger than last year's group from a different source. Mary
Thanks for posting these weights. My birds are turning 22 weeks this weekend. I will try real hard to get them weighed this weekend. I am tracking my own flock's weight and percentage of change. If I get them weighed, I will post the weights...

Oh no I just got a couple from Ideal I hope mine are a little bigger. I am still hopeful as they are the biggest chicks in my whole bunch only a buff Brahma and EE are bigger. After I was so disappointed with McMurrays chickens size I hope Ideal might have better. If not I guess that will be one more to add to my search for good chicks-my list keeps getting longer

still not sure what was happening with him. He perked up really well two times during the week and I was hopeful he would make it and be fine. I think I'm at about plan E or maybe even F at this point with my breeding or non-breeding for this winter

. That's no SS and no black orps, I may have some late spring black orps as I do have a 4.5 month old black cockerel at this point. Maybe I'll work on my Lav Orp splits early in the season??? Potentially blues??? We'll see what I can find at the two upcoming shows and one swap. You never know what will show up. I'm ready to ask lots of questions and I have my older SOP in the car ready to travel and look stuff up if needed.
I think for my birthday, in Nov., I will put in my SS order with Tony for next spring! That will help some.
Hope others are doing better than I am. Really will try to post the pics of the really small roo. Are people weighing and taking photos???

Sorry cowchic11. When we have all our hopes in one bird it gets rough when set back. Others just don't understand how the lost of a bird can set your program back a year or so. I hope you have good luck finding a replacement at the upcoming shows and by all means order from Tony again. After all, you liked his stock the first time around, trying a second time can only improve the genetic diversity of your flock.

Again sorry about your loss. I tend to bond more with my roos than my hens, so I know it can be sad to lose the roos.
