Show Silkie Show!

This is one of my White pullets. She was hatched in July, I believe. I will be showing her in January, along with the white male (no pictures of him yet).

thank you everyone for sharing your lovely silkies.
i know you can't speak for all birds temperaments, but are silkies nice birds?
like to be handled?
i dont even have any and i want to run out and cuddle one somewhere!

destiny,
you have a nice dog there, does he like to lay around the birds,
or is he just there because you are?

As for temperaments, it all depends on the individual birds. The babies go through a stage where they look like lil porcupines and act like lil freaks. When they hit about 3-4 months old they finally start to settle down. The hens can be cranky old witches or as sweet as can be. The cocks can be sooo sugar sweet and then you have some that think they are Satan. Last year I had a white cockerel that was a biter. He'd latch onto anything....skin, pantleg, fingers, hair...and not let go. I have another that will jump up and try to spur you. He has such a huge crest and can't really see where he is going, so usually ends up doing a somersault and bodyslamming himself into your leg.

My dog Weston is a Humane Society rescue. I was at the MN State poultry show a few years ago and stopped in there. He now goes everywhere with me. He guards my chicks in the house and lets the birds crawl all over him at the farm. Best darn mouse killer I've ever seen too. He won't touch a feather on a bird though... Yes he does have 3 legs too.

Just a few weeks ago I stopped in at the Humane Society again while I was at that poultry show again. I signed the paperwork for another dog.... a huge black lab mix named Tonto. He's about 10 months old and totally awesome with the birds too.
