Can someone please tell me why it's so hard to tell the sex of a young showgirl? Can't they be vent sexed like hatchery chickens? (Obviously the answer is no... or else everyone would be doing it). It's one of my chicken-dreams to own a showgirl, but I am not allowed to have roosters where I live. I'd hate to get a showgirl and she turns out to be a roo and then I'd have to find a home for him very very quickly.

WWYD if you lived in an area that doesn't allow roo's and you'd really like to add a showgirl to your flock?? I'd prefer a young one bc our hens are pets and we enjoy handling them and watching them grow up.

Advice?

I suggest to buy hatching eggs or chicks, as soon as it crows- find it a home. Lots of ways to do so and surprising easy.

Here is my one and only little showgirl I got to hatch, but I just ordered more eggs from someone here. I'm excited. They are so much cuter than I thought I would like..love different.

She's a white..ahem..girl


I love the eyes on Silkies and showgirls!


The only time I see most of the bare neck is when she stretches it out like this.

I like this picture, she is a pretty bird walking around. At least I think so. In her coop hanging with other Silkies
and a couple of baby Wheaton Ameraucanas.
