rilly, I noticed your lavendar roo has quite a red neck. I have this problem too on a lot of my SG. Do you consider this still a breeder quality bird? I will take mine to my darkest skinned Silkies and see how the color comes out on any SG cockerals they produce. If I still get red necks, then I will just use SG pullets under Silkie roos.

my showgirl eggs have been incubating for the last 3 days. When candling i saw just a yolk. IS this ok? i candled my non incubated eggs and saw no yolk, does this mean progress for my eggs?

I didn't see anything in my eggs until day seven, and even then I only barely saw some veining. I'd say wait till then and you will find it obvious if they are growin or not

I just did my day 14 candle and i only have four eggs left :hithit how did four of them die in just two days? im so worried for my last four. im going to try not to get my hopes up. Four eggs left out of thirty and only on day fourteen and they still have to survive lockdown? *sigh*

I dont even care if they turn out to be showgirls anymore...i just hope they turn out to be anything at all!

Last month I bought a pair of showgirls at a local poultry show. I wanted Turkens but there were none there so when the auction came up well, I could not go home empty handed. I was thinking of selling them until I realized that my new chicks could use some mothering and so far my little prima donna is doing OK with the chicks under her wings and all over her in fact.

I call her a prima donna because she goes into a hissy fit every time her male comes near and tries the mating dance. She is just not having him at all.

He has needed a bath and his butt feather cut since "his personal care habits" are very limited.

Maybe I'll keep them to see what develops. Maybe she will change. So far she laid two eggs and has stopped now.

Man. Does anyone here sell showgirl CHICKS? I'm not holding out much hope for my hatch and I don't ever want to do shipped eggs again.

I built this darn brooder and I was so proud of it and now it looks like it is gonna be empty

rilly10 gee thanks and to think that I did not even think of getting them but did by default. I was thinking both turkens and silkies have good reputation on the personality/pet scale, so what the heck. Sure hopes Missy learns to love her man or I'll need to locate as least a full silkie since everyone loves chickies.

I tried to read most of this thread but you know (everyone) has so many things to do. Is it not unusual for SG to lay very few eggs ?

I am really surprised that FrenchToast's eggs didn't do well for you. She shipped me 12. 2 were clear. 1 had one blood ring early on. 9 went into lockdown and I got 8 chicks. Maybe USPS scrambled yours
