she called them Isabel but i think its just a color mix- maybe lav/buff/partridge, idk but i REALLY like it. i think it is beautiful. Ill have to take pictures of them in natural light so you can really see how pretty the color is coming out

Oh cool! I don't care if I have mixed colors- mine are just for yard candy, but now I want MORE!!! Did it start out looking buff with a grey back?

Aubrey,

FWIW, I think those are both cockerals. Those "mohawk" crests say cockeral every time. They will fill out eventually, but not as nice as pullets. I would keep the one who retains the darkest skin.

I have hatched a lot of chicks from fowlrus, and almost all the males mature with very red necks ha ha redneck chickens.

Don't get me wrong, I love fowlrus' chicks, but just noticed this tendency in my chicks. I am going to cull most of my cockerals, but do have one or two with decent skin color.

My SG's are all out in the barn and it's just too freakin cold to get pics right now.....but soon... soon, I promise.......

I will post pics of my redneck boys before I cull, and see if anyone wants them. They will be free for cost of shipping, but it's pretty expensive to ship live birds. (excluding day-olds)

Aubrey-
If you can only keep hens or want a certain sex ratio you need to keep them all until they start to sex out or you might end up with an unpleasant shock.

yeah, they were buff and grey

well that stinks. i do not want to keep any roos. i am in the city. i dont want my cripple to be introduced into the flock by itself either

guess i will have to try and find a nice pullet in an auction or something. as far as these two go their skin is WAY darker than the one that i am sure is a roo. plus their crests are way fuller too. what do you mean by "mohawky"? the first ones crest seems more round while the second ones is more lumpy...

Oh yeah, another reason I can't have a roo is because I do not want it mating with my crippled pullet. If I did not have her I would probobly keep one of them.

All the little feathers in the crest that look like "streamers" ie. they look like pin feathers and kind of point up or back. Streamers are indicative of a male. They show up quite early and are a good way to sex them.

Although I could definitely be wrong. You might have to keep both for a while longer to be sure. I wil get some pics later today and try and show you what I mean. bj

Nikki (Hattrick Silkies) is auctioning off a gougeous blue showgirl rooster in the 8wk plus section on here! If I didn't have a splash showgirl cockeral in te growout pen I would be bidding on him for sure!

I live in PA and raise showgirls in Lavender, blue, black and splash. I have silkies in all of the same colors and also porcelain.

Do you ever sell SG's eggs from your BBS pen?
