All the little feathers in the crest that look like "streamers" ie. they look like pin feathers and kind of point up or back. Streamers are indicative of a male. They show up quite early and are a good way to sex them.

Although I could definitely be wrong. You might thave to keep both for a while longer to be sure. I wil get some pics later today and try and show you what I mean. bj

Oh thanks for the advice on that. I'm going to keep them for at least another month or two, so hopefully it will be more obvious then.

I'll also post pics today of all four together so that I can show you what the one I am positive is a roo looks like

Cold here in Iowa again too. So far my Showgirls would rather face the chill then be cooped up anymore. Hopefully this winter will end soon.

mine went outside for the first time over the weekend. they stared at the grass for a minute before realizing how fun it was! even peggy was hopping around, looking awfully happy. the one that i know is a roo was popping his head through the fencing and bopping the big girls in the face, lol. they just looked at him like, " really? ". it was so cute

Hi aubrey,
Yeah those silly little Showgirl roo's think they are macho...

...till one of the older hens give'em what for. First thing one of my 4 month old roo's did when I put them out was run right up on a older hen...and pecked her....she was like...Oh no you didn't!...ran him don't and thumped him.

well guys, i really am worried now that i may have three roosters. Peggy- well peggy IS a girl. she HAS to be.

anywhoo...i wont know for sure for another two or three months, but all of their crests are so much larger than peggy's (except the one i know is a roo, he has the smallest crest of them all.)

anyways, do any of you sell started pullets and ship? Im not looking for anything show quality or whatever, but peggy will need a companion if all these jerks turn out male...

I lurk on here all the time and admire all of you guys' beautiful showgirls and silkies. Here is a couple pics of my White Showgirl roo and Splash Silkie hen. They had been cooped up with all the rain and cold weather, so this was their first day out in a while.....excuse the dirty chickens
