Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

Oh yeah what made you think Edward was a cockerel? I am sure the silkie is a pullet? I have questioned Bells! But the few sounds I have heard from Edward say pullet. I don't see wattles or a comb either. I have not decided if those are streamers in the crest. I really question Edward. If my observations are correct and he is a she I swear I will be buying lottery tickets, he will be the 4th pullet sold to me as a cockerel from breeders who have tons more experience. When he feels better all of those things could change but I did order the diapers in pink. Did you get the text I sent you of him sleeping on my shoulder. He is such a sweetie pie. I am so very glad to have them all. The one egg I candled last night had a very wobbly air sac and I did not see any veins it was a lav egg. I will candle on day 10 but not holding my breath. I have had my hands full but the bators were always spot on when I did check, I have to add water about 2 times a day but that is it.
If all turn out to be pullets I really will need that black egg to be a cockerel, or I will have to get that one you sold Judy somehow. Bubba is my only cockerel at this time. I will keep a close eye on Edward for other signs.

@rilly Good luck going into lockdown keep us posted. I can't wait to see pics.

He has massive streamers and would get in sparring matches with his brothers, I am pretty darn sure he is a boy, just young.

I got the picture, it was super adorable!

He has only ever been with Bells and the silkie and really has not been his normal self here so I wll trust you on this one. I do see longer hair on the crest but it has been all yucked up from the Lefaber's mix so it is hard for me to say streamers till he is cleaned up a bit. I will get him some more manly diapers. Bells is dust bathing in the shaving as I type this. She is great, and they all love the eggs I fix for them.
Have a great weekend,
Tish

Hey SSS

Any chickies yet?
I only candled one last eve, that would be day 9. And number 6 is very lively, just pinging round in there.
If I didn't know better I'd wonder if it was a Polish

. Oh I know better sold my pair of Goldlaced Polish
bantams to a family who's daughter wanted to show them.
Anyway good luck

Silkie Sue my hatch is not due till tomorrow at 11 pm. It was very hard to keep my hands out of the bator last hatch so I stayed up late and set the eggs past my bed time hoping to sleep through the first few pips. I checked just for you though and nothing so far. Temps and humidity are doing well though. I love the 1588 it holds pretty darn steady and the glass is not all fogged up at 73%. I will post pics or videos when they start going you should add me on facebook so much easier posting there.
I loved candling my first hatch but took a very hands off approach this go around hoping for better results. I have only ever hatched shipped eggs prior to the eggs due tomorrow. And this is my second hatch so I still have lots of learning to do.

Good luck with your eggs I loved seeing the babies develop inside it is so cool. That is why I feel so quilty feeding fertile eggs to my chickens. It is either buy store eggs for the chickens or cook my free ones, and I know what my chickens eat!

Jen I won't cook any eggs from the pullet I promise! You have first dibs on anything I don't put in the bator.

I have trying to improve my Showgirls, so I purchased a Super Nice White Rooster from Sunshine Silkies and he has done an amazing job improving the offspring.

I have some Lavender Showgirls, but I need to get some pics of them.

Elite Silkies, They look amazing! I can't wait to see pics of the Lavender ones! Lavender showgirls are my passion for sure! I just bought a pair of nice blacks from Premier to hopefully improve my lavenders. I will be putting a Lav with the black roo and the black hen under my lav showgirl rooster.

Please when you get a chance post some pics of the Lavender showgirls!

I'll try and get some lav pics soon. It'll probably be this weekend. I have 2 lav showgirls, but the rooster's wattles are too large and I do not breed him. The hen has a small crest, but I am hoping that my Silkie Lav Rooster will add some crest to her offspring. I do have a couple of chicks that I will take pics of also. I don't have a ton right now, but I am working on it along with SonRise Silkies. So, hopefully by next year we'll have them looking alot better.

I love all showgirls but must admit the b/b are my favorites. I would like to work on a splash SG and will have my Boy paired with b/b/s. My black pullet possible will be with a black cock, hopefully also from Jen's line. If not I will get one from Jack Ferguson, he has such a great line going on.
Jen I took Edward and Bells out today it was so great to see him acting like a chicken and being more vocal. He is still very sweet and will come sit in my lap though. Bells well she is very fiesty and I love her personality. I will try and leave them together till spring, she is good for him, and those 2 are tight as tangles.

Have my fingers crossed for you. Can't wait hear how it goes. I'm new this as well, yikes! My first incubation....blushes.
I just have a Little Giant with forced air but it's doing a good job. The temps are decent and the humidity seems good so hopefully...
Will be checking back often tomorrow to see how it's going for you.
