Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

Pics
You've done an amazing job. Thanks for the visual, it helps a ton to see what they are and what they can be. I don't know if we will ever raise them for any purpose other than pets, but I want to do it right.

Thanks everyone for being so helpful. We are meeting him in just a couple hours now, my daughter is thrilled to be getting her dream birds!

We ended up with 3 white Showgirl pullets <this spring's chicks, he didn't seem to know the exact age> and 2 white silkie cockerels. He made us a real good deal on them. One pullet has decent toe feathers, both cockerels do. I'll take some pictures soon, got to cool off it's really hot today and we've been out getting them settled. All need baths but that will wait until they are used to being here. One of the cockerels is acting very stressed, hope we don't lose him

Here are some of my what I call generic showgirls.

Mama is a non bearded buff silkie and daddy is a nonbowtied white SG. I was hoping to get silver since when she was paired with a white silkie I got some beautiful silver silkie chicks. But I think that came from the white silkie father's side.

Looks like these are going to be some sore of partridge?

Ok, got a question for all of you SG pros.

I know you shouldn't mix colors with silkies etc. But I would like to play around with new colors with my showgirl stock. What I have to start with is pure colored silkies in White, Blue, Black, Splash and Partridge and one lav Roo.

In SG's in non bowtie I have white only. In bowtie I have partridge and white. And now the three pictured about that have a mix of white and buff so ??? what
there genetics is now??

So what if anything would you pair up to get some different color showgirls. Would you have to pair up the partridge SG with the colored silkied then breed the offspring back to the desired color?

I know I sound stupid, and this shouldn't be done but would like to know what some of the outcomes might be. If they will all be partridge then I won't do it. I have way way to many partridge SG and Silkies right now and I'm not pleased witht he silkies combs.

Thanks

Real quick before I start the packing again.

My Calhoun results for 1st judging were blk hen 1st rv, blk pullet 4, Black, Blue and Splash Showgirls all got BV but the blk SG got BB and the blue got RB in AOV.
The second show Blk hen went broody (Yes she laid an egg and went broody beween the two judgings the little turd), black pullet 5th, all Showgirls got BV with eht black taking RB. So all in all I had a wonderful day. Congrats to all winners.

Happy hatching everyone I have eggs at Miss Judy's hatching on Tuesday I think. Oh and I came home with 18 eggs so yes I filled up one more bator full. Marty Mcguire took the Showgirl eggs and is going to help get them accepted. He said they were the best he has ever seen.

Made my week. Ronnie Ledford also said the same thing. Wow I did not know I could love them any more but those kind of comments really just make me so very happy. I love my Showgirls. Oh there were like 9 birds competing in the AOV catagory including 4 paints and some ohter AOV silkie colors and we still took BB and RB the first show and RB the second show. IMO that is saying a lot because of the disadvantages already of the longer back and less feathering due to the NN gene. The second show Judy Lee beat up with Patty Cake ( a very lovely paint pullet).

Hope everyone is enjoying thier weekend.

I am back to packing uuuugggghhh

Jen call me when you get a chance.

Congrats on your wins! That is AWESOME! So exciting! I just sold the last of my Blue/splash showgirls last night

I HATE to see them go but just really needed to downsize with the human baby coming soon. So now I will only have Black, black splits, and lav showgirls and silkies. I have 10 eggs in the bator now so hopefully when some hatch it will cheer me up about having to let go of the blue/splashes (and my porcelains last week). I also have a angry broody on a few eggs. She is a first time broody so we will see how it goes...I snapped a pic last night when shutting the coop up...she did not like having her picture taken LOL!

Wow, Congrats Simply Splendid Silkies! I hope all your efforts to get them accepted pays off soon.

Wanted to share our little flock. They are far from the quality birds many of you have, but we are loving them. Hoping as a starter flock we can make something of them. I hate that when I look at them all I see are flaws, but I do enjoy them as silly little fuzzy butts too. They really need better blue ears and darker skin. 2 have potentially great feet but the feathers are sparse. They all need baths but our weather turned chilly so I'm holding off.

The one little silkie cockerel you will see has an amazing ear color, it is sapphire blue, but he appears to be partially blind

and has a horrid curled up foot. He eats and drinks fine, so I've not culled him yet. He was a 'freebie' when we bought the others, he was the lone bird left in the cage and the breeder threw him in. I don't think the breeder knew he was blind, he has so many birds I doubt he observed them as closely as I do. While we really need that beautiful ear, I know using him to breed would be a mistake...if he even could do it. The other cockerel is just growing his tail feathers so he looks funny. Hope he develops into something.

Instead of cluttering thread with lots of pics, here is link to slideshow. Chicks & Giggles starter flock of Showgirls

eta a question - do any of you use leg bands? I need to mark them for easy i.d. but didn't want to mess up leg feathers.
