Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

New to chickens. Can someone tell me what color this showgirl is? It is around 5 months old and how do you tell if it's a boy or girl?

It's a beautiful blue, and likely a girl because of the very rounded crest that shows no streamers. However, at five months, you can't be positive yet. I've had boys that had rounded crests at that age and then began to show streamers (I've also had a few pullets that had small streamers). The comb usually is much larger in males than females also. The absolute is when it either crows or lays an egg!

thank you so much! It was sold to us as a black but the more it grew the more light coloring started coming through! I'm hoping its a pullet since I already have lots of roos!!! It's very sweet once you catch it and pick it up!

We also have this little one. The breeder thinks it's going to be a pullet but not sure and not sure on the color either!

It also looks like a pullet, but it is much too young to be certain. Looks like a beautiful blue partridge. You're getting nice quality birds!

thank you! Silkie are very hard to get ahold of where I live! I don't feel comfortable ordering them and having them shipped. I like to see where they come from. My 9 year old is going to start raising them and showing them.

Hi... I've been reading and enjoying this thread and I have a question. These are my first showgirls and I'm so in love with them. They're a couple of weeks old and they are all super adorable. I have 4 of them, 3 splash and 1 blue. They all have bare bottoms so I was wondering if I breed them with silkies (which is what I am planning to do) how many generations will it take before I get feathered bottom bowtie showgirls?

I eventually want to make a nice looking NN cock bird from a bowtie x bowtie mating to put over some silkies for 100% bowtie showgirls, but first I would like to make some feather butt bowtie SGs

You won't see the stripper marks when they are older ( bare butts keels etc) It is very common in sg to sg breeding. Unless you always breed bowtie to silkie and get 25% showgirls you will get some chicks with bare spots. It won't permanently go away. Or at least I see it on everyone's sg to sg breeding on some chicks.
