I am showing one of my five SPs at the fair in a couple of weeks. They started out on 4-20-2009 so they are not laying yet. My 4-h project is breeding chickens so I want to use the best example of the breed.

What features should I be focusing on?

Do you have a copy of the standard? If not, then you need to acquire one. This will help you properly evaluate the traits shown by each of your birds.

Since you are breeding, you also need to learn enough about genetics to be able to work to correct any faults and improve any areas that need improving.
