Showy feathers

Ive been watching my RIR for showy feathers for a while. Its about 4 months old sporting a 2 inch talk red comb and an inch long red wattle. It has had teal in the feathers, but theyre striped teal and red, so i knoe those arent the showy feathers i should be looking for to know if it is in fact a cockerel. No crow yet still. Yesterday i lifted the tail and found 2 very bright beautiful solid teal feathers onoy about 1.5 in long hidden under the tail feathers. Would tgese be the showy feathers? They are drooped over almost curled. Do showy feathers come in hidden like that?

Sounds like a cockerel to me, but pictures would be very helpful.

Yes, I used to have to lift up some feathers to see my boys' roo feathers coming in.

Sorry tgey were much prettier yesterday. As you can see he lost a lot of feathering last night. Does anybody know what would cause this?

Im guessung so. Tge showy feather is now hung over nice and tall
