🥰 Gotta love a naked neck - or an underdog - whichever way around. Have you started the assist?

It was very surprising! I actually haven’t been to the farm in a while, and my dad brings the eggs. had no clue we had any NN left!
I did it. Plenty of coconut oil. Peeled back the membrane and no surprise, absolutely no veins left. Barely took off any shell but a piece did fall off. Here’s some images:
Placed him back in the bator, but the box is low so they are all getting in there, trying to peck at him and standing on him. Is that ok?! I’m very nervous!!
I hope to everything that he does not have a yolk sac!

Actually, it’s like the other chicks are rooting him on with the small shoves:)
His legs are grey and curved, which means I have to give him band aid feet- but it may be because he seems so wet at the moment. We will see. I think all is well. He is slowly pushing out. I can see his navel and no yolk!:wee

So precious! Is he cheeping? I guess the others might jostle him out of his shell but you might want to monitor and do a makeshift divider if it's looking like they are doing more harm than good. It's just me guessing though. I'm on my 1st hatch and still feeling my way. We'll done on the assist. It looks like a great job!

First hatch ever? Either way, it’s always so exciting!!! Good luck to you, I’m sure everything will go well:)!
Babies aren’t being too terrible, it’s actually adorable. They were very curious at first but now one likes to stay in there with the chick. Here’s a picture:
He actually is not cheeping! Eyes are not open either and head is tucked under right wing. One of his legs is stuck to the membrane so he cannot pull free right now, but I think he can do it eventually. His hair is very very wet, which is concerning. I can see his skin almost all over, which is quite different from the other chicks. The end of the shell is filled with black goo, which I’m guessing is his first poops. I’ll also include a picture of the naked neck!

Ok, so this chick has not yet unfurled. One of his toes is bent back and the other foot is curled. He had opened his eyes once. Not sure what’s going to happen. Gonna give him a few hours, but his friends have been nice thus far:)

Yep 1st hatch ever. I've wanted chickens for ages and working from home has given me an opportunity. I did try it with a poor quality inc first but failed...now I am determined to get it right. Here's my set up. 11 silkies. 2 different set dates. 1st lot are due on Friday and are jumping around the inc 😅
Hope the little one is okay x

Ooh!!! I am excited for you!! Quarantine has made all of us a little bored, but is the perfect opportunity to explore the activities we didn’t get to do before! Let me know how it goes.

Ok so this is weird. And I didn’t think it could get worse. A chick hatched around 7am. I watched it hatch, move around, all that stuff. Recently went to check my shrink wrapped baby and the former chick is not alive?! What in the world? The baby is on it’s back, legs in the air, open mouth, and not breathing. The humidity went down to 78% and temps at 99.5. It seems to have a small black nub on its navel. Such a shame!! Beautiful black and white speckled baby:hit
There were two others that hatched around the same time and they are just fine. I’m confused?!
What happened:(

Ok so upon closer inspection, I have noticed some gunk on his navel. He is curled around an egg so it’s hard to see, and my dad usually takes care of the dead chicks. Ah this is difficult. I think bacteria may have entered into its navel area.
@Mother of Chicks -> DONT WORRY! This will definitely not happen to you:hugs
