Shrink wrapped ducks?? What should I do?

Lol hush! She liked it! It's been raining for 3 days.. Had to improvise to get them out if the brooder a while! It's getting crowded in there!

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what to do with them, the brooder is getting too small, I can't keep them all ( not sure hubby us going to let me keep any yet) ANC my mom isn't ready for her few yet! My daughter has a wooden playhouse ( just like a real house) in the back yard. Ice been thinking about turning it into a duck coop. She never plays in it anymore. I'm thinking cutting a doggie door in the back would work, with a ramp to the ground and a little snake proof fenced area off the back? Maybe putting chicken wire on the front door and building nesting boxes in the inside? It has peel& stick vinyl flooring.. Would I have to put shavings or straw all over the floor? This sounds totally dumb.. But I've never owned birds before!

Good lord you have been using your imagination!!

Okay...little Miss Neat Freak!!! I am DYING here with all of your POOP concerns!!!:lau    I think your idea of using the playhouse will work...there is actually a thread on here that has coops people have made using childrens old playhouses( yes, I have spent a LOT of time on here since getting my chickens..LOL). As far as cleaning...yes you will have to clean out their house:sick   But if they are like chickens, they are out in their run area more than their house...coop...can someone PLEASE clarify what you call it for ducks????? So actual cleaning inside their house/coop should be minimal. Mine actually does not even like to poop in her house and will only do it when necessary in the shavings area :)

Pools, pools are the worst.. They will poop like mad in them but apparently they need water....

That's not a duck home, that's a mansion.

Isn't it awesome!! What I would have given for something like it when I was a kid!! My kids rarely ever go in it! They're too afraid of bugs! Haha
It's not movable due to us having a fence, it would have to be completely taken apart and probably trashed. So if we ever moved... I'm sure there aren't many people who would want to buy in this neighborhood who would want a duck/chicken coop. Lol

So duck keepers... What would I need to do to the inside for it to be duck friendly? Would it need straw/shavings in the floor? Or just in nesting boxes?

Would be best if you can put some sand down and then shavings on top..

Do they poop in the grass hahaha, I would like to see how you would clean that up. Lol you see ducks don't poop like chickens, They more likely squirt. Oh yeh that stuff shoots out like a rocket and it's usually very loose. But I really want to see you try and clean it. Lol. Do they poop in the grass. OMG I love that.

Hahaha! Seriously, don't laugh! I'm clueless! Lol

..one of my second batch babies died last :( I have no idea what happened but two of the first batch babies are bigger than the others and my 8 yr old said she saw Uno peck this baby last night on the head. They were all fine and running around last night & When I came in this morning this one was laying on it's back dead, with 3 tiny red spots on it's upper & lower beak... :(

With 2 ducks and a run you would probably have to change once a week....just depends how nasty they are and I would have food and water in the run, not the house itself. The sand will absorb the moisture from the poo, like a cat box. ;Also you'll need a wading pool in the run which will need to be cleaned and refilled once a day. It sounds like a lot of work, and I guess it is, but once you get the routine down, it's not all that bad. I would also consider putting down thick plastic or some other sort of moisture barrier over the peel n' stick to prolong the life of the floor.

They have been drooling some this morning.. I had them outside yesterday for a bit but our lawn is not treated or anything. They are eating starter feed, no grit bc I didn't think that was necessary with starter feed but I remembered my kids have them a tiny bit of bread 2 nights ago.. So do they need grit this little? Other than that.. We are out of town for the night, I brought them with us in their tub but forgot their vitamins for the water so the last two water fills have been just water. I'm trying to figure out if I did something wrong and caused it got die, or if it just got bullied by the bigger babies.,
