Sick and tired of people not locking they dogs up...

Why should I have to spend money on my land to make sure other people`s dogs dont kill my lifestock?

The same reason you lock your car and house or don't leave your purse sitting on the front porch full of $100 bills. Yes, it is wrong to invade your property and steal your stuff, but the world is full of stupid people.

*passes the homebrew*

You may wanna skip the flyer hun, if your neighbors are of the crazy sort, there could be some retribution. That's the whole point of SSS, you don't know the flavor of crazy some people can have.

Oddly enough my rooster is "Senior Cocky".

IMO, In this case its a shoot first answer questions later scenario.
1. No Tresspassing sign
2. Shoot the predator
3. Take pictures
4. Call the police
5. Answer any and all questions the police have, show them the pics, then ask them to go and talk to the owner of the predator so they can tell them why.

Our closest neighbor has hunting dogs that he lets "roam around" in the evenings. I let him see me walk around my electrified fence line carrying my 12 gauge and he got the message without any words spoken. If he wants to keep his dogs then they don't come on my property. The electric fence is very powerful. Will bring a human to his/her knees.

Fort up, good fences will solve the problem. Shooting the dog will just cause problems with the neighbors.

Good luck,

Rufus

What is field fence?

Field fence is woven wire fencing that is designed to be low maintenance and heavy duty. Mom got it because it was the cheapest, she had 10, almost 11 acres to fence in. It has larger squares at top and they gradually decrease in size the lower to the ground it gets.

I use it as temporary fencing for my chickens, but unless they are large standard sized birds, they can squeeze through it. It's nice because it's strong enough for cattle, the cheaper wire fence out there, and it's tall enough to keep out/in the dogs.

It typically runs about $300 for 330ft, I think if you buy several rolls at a time, you get discounts. Add in some cheap poles, some use metal T-posts(which are nice because then the fence can be moved easily) or wooden posts. We use landscaping timbers which can be bought for about $1.50 at Lowes. Then for the front of our property, we cut holes into the landscaping timbers and added some split rails. The split rails take your eyes of the wire and it looks beautiful! As long as you use same size posts and space them equally apart, the wire is practically invisible.

My FIL put up field fence around his 10 acres about 10 years ago when he had cattle. The fence is still here and strong today even though several trees have landed on it.
