    Hi BYCers :)

We've had chickens for about a month now - a random assortment of birds we picked up from a local lady.

One of the birds looks pretty...raggedy, for lack of a better word. She looks sick. The belly skin is exposed and red, and she's developing these scabs on her wings. None of the other birds (15 others) have these symptoms. She's still very active. Eats normal, but is excessively thirsty. Every time we look at her, she's drinking.

Any ideas what this could be? We're thinking about culling.

Have you looked for tiny bugs that could be lice or mites? Lice usually leave white clusters of eggs at the base of feathers. Has she recently been broody (wanting to set on eggs?) They will pull out their breast and belly feathers to sit on eggs. She also may have been sleeping on the floor and the bedding has irritated her skin.
