I agree 100% that a fecal analysis is first and one of the best diagnostic tools for fowl. We even do these randomly throughout the year to check on our birds to make sure there are no surprises. And as I mentioned the first thing when we suspect there is problem. A trained eye can spot worm eggs, coccidiosis, fungal spores, some yeasts appear in the droppings, and occult blood.
I too worked as a vet tech for over 12 years in a hospital that treats exotic's. I am not a alarmist. But I know how quick you can lose a bird, peafowl in particular here if you wait. I agree that you need to have a suspected or definative diagnosis.
In this OP post not enough info is posted. Too general. Coughing. Could be respiratory. But do you also know many respiratory infections are SECONDARY to worm infestation? In otherwords cause by the infestation.
In my opinion just buying these birds, stress of the move. I would do a fecal exam, with wormer at the ready. Along with baytril and tylan, if needed. With a stethoscope rales and or fluid and obstruction can be easily heard and should not be ignored.
Unfortunately if you wait to treat peafowl when you have a problem=dead peafowl.
Boost their immune system okay, but treat sick birds ASAP.
