My RIR chick started isolating 2 days ago and stopped eating and having only occasional sips of water. She is 4 years old. She now is currently sitting in a nesting box away from the other 5 chicks. Last night she vomited up a string of mucus. She has had no other injuries or health issues in the past and until 2 days ago was happy and lively. I am in Wisconsin and the weather has been very cold lately with well below freezing temperatures. There is no evidence of any injuries on her body. No smell from her mouth and only very occasional open beak breathing. Any advice would be appreciated. She is pooping with predominately white poop.

Check inside her beak, make sure there isn’t any “goo” in it.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I checked her mouth and she had some liquid in it. I turned her upside down and massage her and 3/4 cup of almost black liquid mingled with some mucus and near the end a few bits of food. I’m not sure if she has more inside but that seemed to be it for the time being. I sat with her for a long time. When I put her down she just stood with her eyes closed and her mouth slightly open, throwing her head back occasionally and moving her tongue inside her mouth. I have just picked her up and put her inside her layer box where she seems to be the most comfortable. What should I do now. And thanks again for your help.

Do not make a chicken vomit, they can aspirate their crop contents, & die. Just something important to know.

Pictures of the contents you expelled from her crop?

I have had this happen a few times and never seen a bird survive it yet, sadly.
