Sick Chick....

Hello. New to chickens. One of mine has developed this. Is it mushy chick or nasty chicken butt?...I have isolated this chick. How to treat if possible. Chick is very lethargic.

I can't see the picture well enough--it won't enlarge for me. How old is the chick? Is the problem with the vent, or from an open navel? Is the abdomen swollen and squishy with a bad odor? Does the chick have tissue hanging out of the vent (prolapsed vent?) Here is a link on mushy chick disease and one for vent prolapse:

well. it has a bad odor. Chick is a couple weeks old. Sort of looks like the mushy chick with the red swollen part. Just really unsure

If the swollen part is the vent or anal opening, I think you are dealing with a vent prolapse. Mushy chick is only involving the umbilical opening or navel, and those chicks usually die in the first few days. With prolapsed vent, you need to cleanoff the poop, put a little honey or lubricant on it, and try to push it back inside. Honey or Preparation H will help reduce swelling. The longer the prolapse stays out, the harder it is to push back inside. It may also come back out again, so you mayhave to keep pushing it back in for a few days. If this can'tbe done, culling the chick maybe necessary at some point.
