I need help with 1 of our girls. She is an older girl, not sure how old, hasnt laid an egg since before October. We figured she had probably stopped now due to old age. Today we found her very lethargic on the floor of the run, panting and seeming like she is straining to pass something.
I have bathed her in warm water for 20mins, she seems very relaxed in there, I have also had a feel inside her vent with a lubed up finger, I cannot feel anything hard like an egg. But her back end is pretty swollen.
She is now in a cage under our kitchen table with some water and mushed up chicken feed. Its quiet there.
Is there anything else I can do??
What could be wrong?

Older hens can suffer from internal laying and egg yolk peritonitis. Ascites or water belly can sometimes also accompany those illnesses. Cancer can also be a cause. I would try to make her comfortable and offer foods to get her eating, such as moist or wet chicken feed, scrambed egg bits, tuna or canned cat food. Poop pictures can sometimes be helpful.
