I have a 6 month old Pied Suffolk with a very strange looking vent. It appears swollen at the top, causing it to stick out but doesn't appear to be prolapsed.

She's been a little withdrawn for about a week, but still eating and drinking. I can't tell if she's still laying as I have only quarantined her today. She feels a bit underweight as her breast bone feel pointy. Poop is slightly watery.

So far, Ive given her a warm bath and cleaned off a small amount of hard poop and started adding apple cider vinegar to their water.

None of the other hens have any of these symptoms. All are fed high quality pellets supplemented with corn and sunflower seeds.

Any suggestions as to what this could be? I would be more than happy to take her to the vet but we don't have any poultry vets nearby.

Have you felt the vent area? Does it have a blockage of any kind? Have you felt inside? It may be that she has an egg stuck.
Yes, I've had a feel inside and there doesn't appear be a blockage. That was my first thought when I first saw the swelling.

Did you ever find out what was wrong? We are having the same issue but now she is straining to poop. She has a vet appt on Wednesday but I don't want to lose her before then. She has had baths and been treated with preparation H and lotrimin.

Vet suspected it was an infection caused by poorly formed eggs. Attempted 2 rounds of antibiotics and calcium injection but she never recovered .

We were getting better but then she relapsed. I don't know what to do at this point. It smells so bad! She started laying again though which is very interesting. I'm hoping she stops though so that she can heal for good this time. If not, I guess, I just keep treating her. She doesn't seem to be in pain or struggling to poop which is good.
