Sick chicken

In my experience with crop problems, most of the crop issues were related to other problems, such as internal laying or oviduct cancer. Hopefully your hen will get better. Sometimes you can learn to put in a feeding tube into her crop, and pull out the crop contents, then flush her crop with electrolyte water. I wish I could be of more help, but I have yet to have one with sour crop make it even with treatment.

I feel so silly crying like this but I am way too attached. I’m gonna keep treating but if she doesn’t improve, my husband and I will need to take care of her. I appreciate your honesty and caring words. I think I got way too optimistic.

I agree with @Eggcessive that sour crop can often signal a much more serious underlying issue, and you will likely know that is what you're facing when your patient declines instead of improving with the yeast treatment.

Before we toss in the towel and order a tombstone, let's review your treatment protocol.

- Are you giving a good half inch of cream?
-Are you giving it twice a day?
-Are you holding back carbs and sugar? This includes fruit and any sugar in electrolytes.
-Have you tried a crop bra at night yet to help the crop contents empty?

I have been doing 1/2 inch of the cream 2 times a day and no carbs. The only thing I have not done is the crop bra. I did see how to make one on your article you sent. Gonna try that today. Do you think I can get the vet tape at tractor supply?

I see you are getting good help, so I won't chime in about that.
I just wanted to say, I'm sooo sorry that your sweet girl is not well :hugs
Not silly at all to cry over them. I get attached to certain ones too, especially those that need extra care. You are doing the best you can so keep it up and see how it goes. If she does not make it, then know you did everything you could.

Thank you for your sweet comments...I will keep you updated

Have you tried activated charcoal?
This is definitely worth a try. Charcoal will bind with yeast spores, and it could help if the crop bra doesn't seem to make a difference.

Just be aware that charcoal depletes magnesium and could result in constipation. If you do give it to your hen, limit it to one capsule and give her a teaspoon of milk of magnesia with it.
